Some photos from today's lunch...
What's under that dorade box? Do you really want to know? It's not really that bad. Mostly dirt. That's a bead of silicone around the vent tubes. Did it keep out the water?

This is the dorade vent port in the main cabin. Note the gap between the headliner and the inner skin of the deck. And that's some dry balsa. Phew... Also note the difference between the inner and outer skins. The outer is a lot thicker and to me it looks like the inner may have been made by chopper gun. The core is about 1/2" thick here.

This is not dry core. This is what came out using the tool in the drill. To fix this I'll have to drill holes moving away from this one and chew out the rotten balsa until I get to dry core. The 2nd photo is getting there but there is more to go. This is wet but not rotten.

How strong are those hand rails? As a service to Pearson owners I gave this one a swift kick to find out. It was really two kicks from a sitting position because I didn't want to fall off the boat. I'm replacing these with stainless steel from tops-in-Quality.

I used this carbide tip in my dremel to get out the screw head and washer that were installed above the headliner for the port forward hand rail.

Getting back to wet core, this photo shows the core around one of the three water fill deck plates. You can see how water got in around that outboard screw hole and rotted the balsa. I had to remove about one inch of core to get to dry balsa. The rest of the core aroung this deck plate was OK. I resected about one inch all the way around and will fill with epoxy thickend with 406 silica filler. The mounting screws will be secured into the epoxy.

The same process used for the core around the deck plate is used on all the hardware mountings on deck including this one for the forward chainplates.

Whats under that nav station? I removed the nav station cabinet so that I could get the hull liner off. The nav table was held to the bulkhead by 7 screws, three from the other side of the bulkhead that were covered with bungs.

I have removed mosg of the cabinets and furniture from the port side.
